Launch an exciting career in interior design with a professional training programme at NIA ACADEMIE.

With various locations throughout the Netherlands, NIA ACADEMIE provides HBO-level training with professionals active in the interior design field. Lessons follow current trends in the market and upon successful completion of coursework and examination, students will be awarded a diploma. NIA ACADEMIE encourages continuing professional education and offers its programme graduates a 10% discount on follow-up 3-day training courses. For whom?

‘Interior Design (Fase 2)’ provides professional training to beginners and working designers alike. In this course, students develop the sketching and design skills needed to succeed in the interior design world.

NIA students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, education levels, and age groups (22–55+). This exciting mix makes NIA a particularly stimulating educational environment where students learn from each other’s experiences and backgrounds and share in their common commitment to become successful interior design professionals.

Basic and Specialism
We teach our students basic professional skills and best practices in interior design. After successful completion of the training and the exam, students can begin careers as an independent interior stylists or designers, or they may work as an advisor in an interior shop.

Portfolio

During the last four lessons of the basic training, students will work on an assessment that can be used as a starter’s portfolio. The portfolio demonstrates a designer’s styling and design skills and is key to acquiring new customers.

Contents of the course

- Drawing  | drawing materials and setting up a drawing •  scale and perspective in floor plan drawing •  axonometric and isometric drawing • applying colour with marker pens •  function plan • walkways, sight lines and proportions • divisions in living room, bathroom, kitchen and bedroom

- Concept | ideation • abstract moodboards •  customer needs analysis

- Structural components and lighting | floors • walls • stairs • doors • fireplaces • lighting

- Light Plan | basic fixtures collage

- Colour | colour theory (Johannes Itten), colour application • colour effects in a room • relationship of colour and light

- General Knowledge | materials • trade • design classics • composition excursion architectural styles • training in customer calls

- Commercial skills | Development of skills in design drawing in combination with customer calls

Lifelong learning

After their basic training, students can further grow with various tailor-made, HBO-level specialisation modules offered by NIA. These programs are designed to provide students an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and further adapt to the fascinating and continually changing world of interior design.

To help students reach their individual educational goals, NIA Academie provides personalised study advice and offers a 10% discount on all 3-day follow-up modules. Please bear in mind that this offer is only valid up to 1 year after completion of the basic training and that these modules are only available in Dutch.

NIA ACADEMIE Diploma

After completing Interior Design (Fase 2), students can advance to  Interior Styling (Fase 1) and Interior Design (Fase 3). While Interior Styling (Fase 1) can also be a starting point for the full training (Fase 1, 2 and 3 ), Interior Design (Fase 3) provides students with a deeper exploration of designing interior plans: a complete Textile course is also part of this training. Successful professional training concludes with the award of an NIA ACADEMIE Institute diploma.

Docent Jacqueline den Uyl

Jacqueline den Uyl heeft als vakprofessional jaren aaneen voor de ING bank, Ahold, andere bedrijven en vele particulieren interieuradviezen uitgebracht. Als Interieurarchitecte is zij tevens meer dan 15 jaar als vakdocent verbonden aan een bekend Amsterdamse Styling Academie en begeleidt zij Interieurstudenten van diverse opleidingen. Haar inspiratiebronnen zijn o.a. reizen, de natuur, duurzaamheid, materialen en multidimensionaliteit.

Docent Kees van Schoten

Is ruim 25 jaar werkzaam als zelfstandig interieurarchitect in Amsterdam, zowel in de particuliere markt als in de projectwereld (formuleontwikkeling voor retailketens en store design voor De Bijenkorf). Daarnaast heeft hij 15 jaar ervaring als vakdocent bij diverse instituten in binnen- en buitenland (Hogeschool van Amsterdam; Piet Zwart Academie, Rotterdam; Raffles Design Institute, Guangzhou China)
